CONCEPT ITERATION

Defining the product shape took many iterations...

Ths was one of my first time creating an organic model, and I really wanted to nail down the flower look. Just getting the shape of the flower alone took many, many different iterations (which you can see the progress from V1 to V2). Once I was able to get past that hurdle, it was a matter of defining the look of the base, making it look more unique and even scaling down the flower even more (which you can see in V3)

PLANNING

Figuring out how to make my idea come to life...

After many iterations, I was finally happy with the look of my flower model. Now, the next challenge was figuring out how to bring this idea to life. I knew 3D printing was the fastest option, but I wanted to experiment with all kinds of methods and dive into the many technologies available to me.

After many consultations, I finally figured out the best way to tackle my project. Here, you can see me utilizing all kinds of technologies such as 3D Printing (FDM and Resin), Laser Cutting and even Thermoforming.

FDM 3D Print; Spray Painted

PVC Pipe; Thermoformed

FDM 3D Print; Spray Painted

Acrylic Sheet; Laser Cut

PROTOTYPING

Getting my hands dirty!

Once I had a solid plan, I quickly got to work. And, as I was going through the prototyping stage of my project, I knew that this was the toughest challenge I’d face. Countless hours were spent researching, consulting, sanding, and even refining my project. Furthermore, I am a perfectionist when it comes to the quality of my work, and I pride myself in fixing any imperfections--no matter how big or small.

FINISHED PRODUCT

Putting everything together! :)

After many days of work, I am proud to announce that I finally finished my lamp! And, at the end of it, I am confident and happy to say that all the hours put into this project was worth it! I challenged myself greatly with this project, and learning how to prototype and create with my hands was the best decision I could ever make.

Furthermore, I’d like to give a shout out to the many people who made this possible--even though that this was my idea, at the end of the day just talking with people and consulting with other creatives elevated this project so much more. I couldn’t have done it without them.
